Thamma, the Horror Comedy Romance know with khelofun

Bollywood has just received a new vampire narrative that combines romance, terror, and laughter. Thamma will be released in cinemas on the 21st of October 2025, and will feature the collaboration of three prominent actors in a film which is part of the expanding Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. This one is however different since it is putting love at the center while the supernatural is still quite lively.

The Cast That Makes It Work

Alok Goyal is performed by Ayushmann Khurrana, who is going beyond his usual range. The character of Tadaka is being portrayed by Rashmika Mandanna, and the initial reports indicate that she possesses a lot of power and speed.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui provides the villain energy as Yakshasan, who is characterized as a joker-like figure who combines the scary and the humorous. Paresh Rawal completes the principal cast with the role of Ram Bajaj Goyal.

The actors’ chemistry is most likely very strong, judging by the little that the audience has seen so far. Ayushmann referred to this movie as a complete wild card and something that no one has ever experienced in the local cinema before. This is the perspective of a person who has frequently taken on odd roles already.

What’s the Story About

Here’s where things get interesting :

  • Two people fall for each other despite coming from completely different worlds
  • Ancient powers and old prophecies try to keep them apart
  • Vampire folklore from traditional tales gets mixed with modern storytelling
  • Family connections and nature itself become obstacles they have to face

The Thamma film was originally titled Vampires of Vijay Nagar before settling on Thamma. According to the filmmakers, Thamma represents an old being that’s part vampire, part Yaksha.

Villages used to whisper this name in fear centuries ago. Unlike western vampire stories, this one pulls from tales that existed long before shows like The Vampire Diaries made the concept popular worldwide.

How It Fits Into the Maddock Universe

Thamma is the fifth chapter in the horror comedy universe of Maddock, and it is supported by the previous films Stree, Bhediya, Munjya, and Stree 2. This series takes its inspiration from various folklore tales and traditions. However, what is interesting about Thamma is that it brings romance to the fore while keeping horror and comedy in between.

Dinesh Vijan, the producer, revealed that the concept took about four to five years before it was ready for production. This development was started as just a single idea during the lockdowns.

Initially, it was just a small idea, and later it became a big project that opened up new horizons for their universe. To even confirm the extent of the connection between these films, Shraddha Kapoor attended the trailer launch to support the film.

Updates Regarding the Film

Aditya Sarpotdar, the director who worked on Munjya, is now back with his skills in the universe to tell this vampire story. Writers for this project will be Niren Bhatt, Suresh Mathew, and Arun Falara. Filming locations included Delhi, Mumbai, and Ooty and took place from December 2024 to mid-2025.

It is said that the budget climbed to Rs 150 crore, which makes this Thamma film the priciest among the others in the universe. The big amount is reflected in the visuals, including real places along with heavy use of visual effects. Amar Kaushik, who made the first Stree, was constantly present in the production. The Music Element

Sachin-Jigar composed the soundtrack with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The album includes several tracks that fit different moods:

  • Tum Mere Na Huye captures the sadness of love that can’t happen
  • Poison Baby features Malaika Arora in a dance number
  • Dilbar Ki Aankhon Ka adds another musical moment
  • Rahein Na Rahein Hum rounds out the collection

These songs seem to balance the emotional weight with the need for commercial appeal.

Early Reception and Box Office Hopes

Advanced ticket sales started strong, with over 12,000 seats sold on the first day nationwide. The Thamma film has a U/A certificate from the censor board, opening it up to wider audiences. Its runtime clocks in at 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Trade analysts think the Diwali release date could push opening numbers between Rs 20-30 crores. The five-day holiday window following release might help it build momentum. Having three popular stars together creates built-in audience interest.

What Makes This Film Different at Khelofun

The new movie by director Karthik S. K. titled Thamma is very different from the usual vampire movies that Hollywood usually makes, as it is based on Indian mythology. The romance factor is equally significant in the plot and the story does not treat love merely as a side thing, which is the case in most other movies. Possibly this very factor may be enough to lure in the audience who would otherwise completely ignore a horror film.

The tone in a sense is trying to encompass everything at once-terrifying, funny, action packed and sentimental moments. Whether or not that mixture succeeds will be determined to a great extent by the script’s ability to keep all these elements in balance.

The initial responses from the audiences to the trailer have been a bit debatable, with some expressing their doubts about the formula becoming repetitive while others are looking forward to the expansion of the universe with excitement.

Thamma is a gamble for the whole team as bloodsucker tales have not been a hit among Indian viewers before.

However, if it happens to be a hit among the viewers during the Christmas holiday, then it will be a significant step towards the acceptance of mythology-rich supernatural love stories.
